Now, everyone out there reading this article might be questioning yourself that why the title says diabetes is a universal disease. Let me clear out this point that it is just a title given by me. As you all know, diabetes is a disease that occurs when the glucose level in the blood is too high. I would say this is the only disease in the world that needs no introduction. The main part of this disease is that it has no cure. Once a person has inherited diabetes, then it is with him until the day he/she dies.

How common is diabetes?

Out of five people, four people do not even know that they are actually suffering from diabetes. As of 2015, 30.3 million people in the US had diabetes. About 90-95 per cent of adults are inherited by this disease. Even in India, the number of patients visiting the hospital is increasing day by day. Mostly seen in the Indian mothers of our society taking several tablets and insulin throughout the day. People consider this taboo as a sin in society because it makes the health conditions worse if not taken care of.

Types of diabetes

Generally, there are two to three types of diabetes.

  1. Type 1 diabetes- In this type of diabetes the body stops to make insulin, and that is why in many cases people of type 1 diabetes have to take insulin injections throughout their lifetime. This type of diabetes mostly occurs in middle-aged or elderly people.
  2. Type 2 diabetes- In this type, your body does not make insulin as well. You can develop this type of diabetes at any age. However, this type of diabetes mostly occurs in middle-aged people.
  3. Gestational diabetes- Gestational diabetes develops in women when they are pregnant. Most of the time it goes away when the baby is born.

Symptoms of diabetes

Do you feel excessive thirst? Do you frequently go to the bathroom for urination? Are you losing weight or gaining weight? Do you get irritated with the smallest things? Do you have a blurred vision? If you are suffering or experiencing any of the above symptoms, then you must visit the doctor immediately. I would recommend CMC (Christian Medical College) in Vellore, Chennai for their wonderful treatment service for diabetes.

Conclusion

I would like to conclude by saying that we Indians are too lazy to do the simplest job. It is our duty as a society to look after each other. One of the biggest doctors in Asia said that ‘diabetes is a disease which is more dangerous than cancer’. People should not be ignoring any of their health consciousness. It is well said that ” Health is Wealth” because without health there will be no wealth for survival.
