The growth of pharmaceutical industries in India is undeniably important due to the significant role played by it in generating high sales revenue domestically and globally. Therefore, the Government of India highly encourages and prioritizes pharmaceutical research and higher education. National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) are Indian institutes established to develop into a center of excellence for research and advanced studies in pharmaceutical sciences. Currently, these institutes (NIPER) are located in Ahmedabad, Guwahati, Hajipur, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mohali, and Raebareli.

NIPER conducts a national level entrance examination called NIPER JEE to provide admissions to various postgraduate and PhD programs in the field of pharmaceutical sciences. The various master’s courses offered are Medicinal Chemistry, Natural Products, Traditional Medicine, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Regulatory Toxicology, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Technology (Formulation), Biotechnology, Pharmacy Practice, Clinical Research, Pharmacoinformatics, Pharmaceutical Technology (Process Chemistry), Pharmaceutical Technology (Biotechnology), and MBA (Pharm). The doctoral courses offered are Medicinal Chemistry, Natural Products, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Pharmaceutical Technology (Process Chemistry),  Pharmacy Practice,  and Pharmaceutics. This exam is usually conducted in the month of June and the qualifying candidates will be called for a personal interview. Selected candidates will be invited to attend joint counseling.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Eligibility criteria depend on the course/discipline in a particular NIPER institute. The common eligibility criteria are listed below.

Master’s Courses

  • For M.Pharm./M.Tech. (Pharm.)/ M.S. (Pharm.), the qualifying degree should be M.Sc. (Organic/Analytical Chemistry/Life Sciences/Botany) or M.Sc. (Biological Sciences) or B.Pharm. or B.Tech. (Chemical Engineering) or equivalent or B.V.Sc. or BAMS or M.B.B.S.
  • The candidates should score a minimum of 60% in aggregate in the qualifying exam.
  • The minimum marks to be scored in the qualifying exam are 55% for SC/ST candidates and 50% for physically handicapped candidates.
  • Final year candidates are also allowed to apply for the examination.

Ph.D. Pharmacy Courses

  • The prerequisite qualification is M.Pharm/ M.S.(Pharm.)/M.Tech.(Pharm.) in relevant discipline.
  • The candidates should score a minimum of 60% in aggregate in the qualifying exam.
  • The minimum marks to be scored in the qualifying exam are 55% for SC/ST candidates and 50% for physically handicapped candidates.
